We often talk about kitchens as the heart of a home, and it’s easy to understand why. Having walked through hundreds of them over the years and reflected on our own experiences of raising families and gathering with friends, we see it time and again. The kitchen is where families come together at the end of the day, where friends pull up a stool, where children do homework and where conversations unfold over a shared meal.
A beautiful example is our latest listing at 23 Oakover Street, East Fremantle. Its exceptional kitchen sits at the centre of the property, connects the living spaces and makes you imagine what it would feel like to call it home.
It also got us thinking about our own ‘kitchen’ at White House. Most Tuesdays, our Director takes over the kitchen and cooks lunch for the team. A simple tradition, but one that we all look forward to. It reminds us how much a shared meal can mean, a chance to step away from the busyness of the week, sit together, slow down and share a conversation over a meal. It is one of the small ways we look after each other, and it means more than it probably sounds.
Which is what made last Friday feel so important when we swapped “deal-making” for “meal-making” at Foodbank.
White House Property Partners spent time at Foodbank WA, taking part in Dealmakers Become Meal Makers, a friendly cook-off competition alongside our friends from Noble Avenue, Redfox Property, LJ Hooker Experience and Peard. We innovated, we cooked, we competed, we laughed, and we cried — all while creating meals for the people Foodbank supports every day. We were reminded, in the most tangible way, of the work Foodbank does every single day to make sure Western Australians have enough to eat.
One in three Australian households experienced food insecurity in the past year. That is not a distant statistic. That is neighbours, school parents, people in our community quietly doing it tough.
Our commitment to Foodbank will continue this November, as we participate in their annual food drive for the second year. We’d love for our clients, friends and wider community to be part of it, we’ll share details closer to the date. In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more or make a donation, you can do so here.
If conversations around your own kitchen table have turned to what’s next, we’d love to sit down with you and have a cuppa and a chat. Please feel free to reach out. We are here to help.
